Veterans Day History, Quotes, pictures, Poems, Messages and Sayings
What is Veterans Day? and History of Veterans Day?
Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans, that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service.
When was the First Veterans Day Celebrated?
Veterans Day initiated as “Armistice Day” on November 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War 1. Later in 1954, President Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday as Veterans Day from previously known Armistice Day. The brave soldiers who serve and guard the U.S. come from all walks of life; at present, they are parents, children, grandparents, friends, neighbors and at last most important part of communities.
Difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day:
Memorial Day which is celebrated on the Fourth Monday in May to honors American service members who died during service to their country or who got incurable injuries during battle, while Veterans Day celebrated to pays tribute to all U.S. veterans (living or dead), but mainly gives appreciation, respect to living veterans who served their country during battles or peacetime in the past.
